In addition to these beliefs and doctrines, we practice biblical marriage which is the union between one man and one woman as defined by Jesus Christ.
"He answered, 'Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, "Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh"? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.'" (Matthew 19:4-6 ESV)
The Apostle Paul illuminates these words of Jesus with the following statement.
"This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church." (Ephesians 5:32 ESV)
Marriage is a great mystery that illustrates the gospel (Ephesians 5:25-32). Jesus is the bridegroom, and the church is his bride (John 3:29; Revelation 19:7-9).
Therefore, our definition of marriage is directly linked to and depicted in the gospel.
"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word." (Ephesians 5:25-26 ESV)
